…which inevitably causes…

Talk to anyone about the cruelty pigs suffer in farming. About how the young piglets are dragged from their mothering sow and locked in a dark room where there is only enough room for them to stand up-right, squeezed in with hundreds of other piglets until they go blind and develop sores on their feet and you’ll find that nearly everyone will agree that the way we mass farm pigs is wrong and that more should be done to support free range farming as well as encourage farmers to adopt techniques which guarantee animals enjoyable and peaceful lives.

Ask them to stop supporting companies which encourage batch farming by giving up meat however and you’ll find them defensively putting their arm around their bacon sandwich and looking at you as if you were some kind of loony.

Such is Human nature. We are consumerists at heart, we don’t like the idea of giving up something we enjoy, even for ethical reasons without getting something in return. For most the idea of ‘giving up’ something is more a case of exchanging it for “Ethical Points” they can collect in order to be feel smugly superior to those who have less points or don’t collect. This is why Vegans are so unbearable at parties.

Of course tell Vegans that the business of Ethical Food is almost as large as Fast Food and the companies who support it are destroying rainforests to make way for Soya Bean and chickpea plantations which is killing off the Orangutan’s natural habitat as well as forcing large populations in Indonesia into slave labour and their minds cannot deal with the complexity of the real issue so they stare at you briefly then storm off to find someone to brag to about how they’ve never bought a plastic bag in nearly three months.

You may wonder where I’m going with this, read on.

The complexity of the Universe is too much for the average mind and therefore demands a simplistic answer. People are more likely to believe a Well told story or a marketing catch-phrase than they are a 200 page well-researched document by a revered college Professor. A Marketing Catchphrase is something quick that grabs your attention where as a 200 page document that has a lot of words you probably don’t understand requires time and effort to read, time which most of us don’t have.

Science is fully aware of this, it has been studied and documented very conclusively and is applied in area’s of learning in situations where it is required for someone to roughly know how something works without needing to know all the in’s and outs. It’s called “Lies to Children” and the best example is the Rainbow.

If I were to ask you how a rainbow was made you would probably talk to me about refraction, how the sunlight gets refracted into the various colours on the visible spectrum of light when it passes through a raindrop. We even have amusing little experiments to show this working, which is detailed on the front cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ a poster which appears in almost every college dorm.

This presents a very satisfactory answer to something which the average mind does not consider important. It is filed and forgotten about. Of course the more developed mind knows this is not how rainbows are formed. Raindrops are not triangular and the experiment does not compensate for the raindrops movement. but the actual way rainbows are formed is too complex to sum up in a paragraph, so light refraction is taught instead because it is the closest simple answer to the truth.

In Second Life Aviation our community has been fighting in the midst of a flame war that has gone on long past the point of anyone being able to care about it, yet on it continues. Certain individuals would have us believe that this entire thing is naught but a conspiracy weaved by the financial motivations of Dani’s competitors and like the cover of Dark Side of the Moon this would provide the simplistic explanation the average mind demands to the otherwise incredibly complex issue we face.

However since you’re reading this article and since this debate continues to be highlighted and discussed, with or without the “community leaders” permission, this would prove that the larger part of the Aviation community is not satisfied with the simplistic answer given by the pro-Dani crowd nor are they satisfied with the “Dani downloads, he is evil” argument of the Anti-Dani movement and so the debate continues.

I sit on the fence here, though I believe downloading without permission and copyboting is wrong I do not feel that ousting Daniels Fall witch-hunt style to a Public Lynching is the correct manner in which to deal with this situation. We are consistently told by the Anti-Dani movement that he is a talentless gibbon. His builds are copy-paste direct from the source with very little texture editing other than non-vectored Jpegs stretched over a pre-existing livery that came with the model. His scripts are freebie submarine scripts that work on negative buoyancy which push the Aircraft above sealevel as opposed to under it. Hence why his Aircraft have such odd physics, such as their amusing ability to topple over if everyone inside runs to the back while the breaks are off.

Supposing this was true then there would be no reason to purchase a Dani plane over something that was built from the ground-up, made with a true passion and scripted to perfection with all the bugs and errors frustratingly ironed out. Previously it was my understanding, and I covered that in this old article, whereby the current generation of builders that prefer to work with original mesh, built by them, have little to no understanding of the core demographic which makes up the SL Aviation Community and most, when told, feel it is beneath them to appeal to such a market. Anyone who wants a comfortable luxury jet, complete with champaign flutes and a sex bed, over some big belching prop plane from the 1940’s is not worth bothering about in their opinion.

When it came to fighting Dani the builders had only one plan. The same plan they execute with everyone else caught downloading, they exposed him as a downloader and sat pointing with a gleeful expression. It was the rest of the community, who watched as the hardliners deleted their Dani planes in disgust, said “does that mean I cannot use this plane? but I like it, why should I give it up, I don’t want too, why can’t we all just fly what we want for fun?” which is the prevailing mood of Aviation today. The first mistake of the Anti-Dani crowd was to, and still, assume people would stop using or buying Dani products simply because they were stolen off the internet.

In my Article “A Short rant about Dani and why you fucked up” I explained the only way to defeat someone like Daniel Falls was simply to out-compete him. Not by screaming, bitching and calling him names. Like the Vegans who traded their meat for Ethic points the Aviation Community was never going to be convinced to give up their Dani planes, planes they had been desperate for since they first took to the skies, for ethical reasons. Dani’s planes had to be replaced by better planes that people would want to buy. And since Dani was such a “talentless noob” such a feat would be easy for the clearly elitist builders that had somehow been so quickly de-throned.

When that article was published I was applauded in droves by the various builders, yet one by one they excused themselves stating that they couldn’t possibly be my target since they enjoyed appealing to the niche market and were comfortable with it. The few who genuinely took notice all began to work on large passenger jets but ultimately each one would fail to realise what was appealing about Dani’s planes and would fall back to the Hallmarks of what they thought it was. Superior Builds and Superior Scripts, with complicated Flight physics that took a long time to master. Of the five large passenger jets tipped for construction only Mick McKeenan’s 727 made it too the market as, one by one, the other builders slowly lost enthusiasm and went back to the small, obscure planes that they liked to dream about. If anything proving that the financial gains to be made from a Private Luxury jet from ZSK or a Boeing Passenger Jet built to the same standards as Tank’s Supercub were nowhere near as motivating as simply getting to build the plane they liked.

Also for the record I have no idea if Mick McKeenan was influenced in anyway by my article, we’ve never spoke.

=

On the other side the Pro-Dani crowd can hardly claim to have taken the moral high ground. Acting like a despot Dictator desperately trying to crush a rebellion they have excused themselves as people peacefully trying to protest while at the same time have employed the tactics of Censorship, Blackmail, Violent Threats, Greifing and have even spent considerable effort trying to hack this blog if the amount of times I’ve come home to find it’s randomly been locked due to “excessive failed password attempts” is anything to go by. Of course that is on the extreme end of things, the so-called Dani Cultists. The ones who sit poised at their keyboards with their eyes glued to the SL Aviation Group chat, ready to fly into a rage anytime Dani is mentioned or they see someone who’s name they recognise as being one of the Anti-Dani crowd and are arguably the group that has caused the most amount of Drama.

Where as the stupidity of the Anti-Dani crowd to assume everyone would flock to them in understanding as soon as the word “download” was mentioned it has been the naivety of the Pro-Dani crowd to assume everyone would flock to their side as soon as the word “Monopoly” was mentioned.

When Wilder Skies Aviation was banned from Aeronautica it was called a Monopoly, when Pirate Air got kicked out of the Blake Sea it was because Monopoly, Astral-Teks year long war with Amok was to prevent a Monopoly, When Jewels Silverbade stormed out of Olds AFB it was because Monopoly, In fact everything about Olds AFB was a Monopoly, it opened because Monopoly, it closed because Monopoly, When DOR and Flying Tigers split it was because Monopoly, When they got back together it was to prevent a Monopoly, when the Jeogeot Gulf formed it was called a Monopoly, when MCE was created it was because Monopoly, when VICE replaced TCS it was because Monopoly, when TCS replaced CCC it was because Monopoly, the SL Aviation group was created because Monopoly and the SL AVIATION GROUP was created to prevent said monopoly, Shana exists to prevent a monopoly and Luke Flywalker consistently supporters her to prevent a different Monopoly and well…the list goes on.

Essentially the word “Monopoly” is thrown about so many times rather than say “Blue Skies” to each other we should be saying “Pass Go”. It is the base line for the “I don’t have an argument” speech and is almost always used by greedy power grabbing individuals to justify their crusade against the rival one their close friends businesses. It is employed so many times because financial motivation is easy to prove and difficult to convince otherwise, an accusation of a monopoly requires no physical evidence beyond a simple explanation that If subject ‘A’ is financially motivated then can you imagine how much money they would make if everyone could only buy their products then without missing a beat we are told that this is why we must not buy subject ‘A’s’ products and instead support subject ‘B’ and buy their products to prevent said monopoly and “vote with our wallets”.

Of course like most forms of democracy the ones standing on their soapbox yelling it are only happy if you vote their way. If you don’t then you’re ignorant or stupid.

Thankfully for the “stupid” people of SL Aviation the term “Monopoly” no longer constitutes an argument and has started to become something of a joke term along the same lines as claiming everyone is an alt of someone else or calling somebody Gay. So for the first time in perhaps Second Life’s history the Cultists are being forced to put effort into their accusations and this is where it gets entertaining.

But before we get into what the biggest problem with the Dani Cultists is, I must first explain to you what I mean by a Community Leader and who or what this shadowy organisation is that I keep referring too. It’s very important that you understand what I mean when I’m talking about these people as most enjoy assuming I’m talking about them. Those people are wrong but I like to let them have their fun.

There is also some other things that need to be discussed in the meantime and I’ve written a lot already. So we’ll cut here and pick it up later.

Wow. My head is still spinning and my eyeballs hurting from that one. That is a lot of gobbledegook to absorb and sort out and I wanna go fly. So I’m going to quote just the one point you brought out that I’ve been trying to make all along, that you made and really is the heart of this whole mess:

“In my Article “A Short rant about Dani and why you fucked up” I explained the only way to defeat someone like Daniel Falls was simply to out-compete him. THAT statement sums it up. Reality sets in. You want a good flying big passenger jet, you get it from Dani, you buy one of the ancient attachment based behemoths, or you don’t get one. It’s pretty much that simple. Mick has a great 727 but unfortunately the combi configuration alone was a mistake. It needs a full passenger version. I know E-Tech has a 737 but it’s not getting the best reviews.

Even in the small passenger jet world the choices are pretty much limited to the unmodifiable D300, a pricey Citation, the futuristic but not quite popular Gulfstream 750 or a barely flyable CRJ-700. The D-300 rules the roost in that category because there is no real alternative.

So..you want to shut Dani down..give the market reasonably priced, MODIFIABLE passenger jet alternative that people can actually enjoy flying.

i actually started a 727-100 (got a lovely set of plans from boeing themselves that i had to pay for) but found out about mick’s, at that point i opted to hold off for a bit on it and work on a few other projects. It’s his first aircraft and he more than deserves a chance to shine with it.

  2. There are a couple other business jets. Niki’s HondaJet, and oh yeah, Dani’s D-100. Yes I’m aware of the Falcon 7X in the works. ‘In the works’ with a lot of the makers seems on par with ‘your check is in the mail’. Dani is releasing new aircraft, Carly is releasing new aircraft, Kelly is releasing new aircraft. Heck, Karl went to her to do the script for the weird vintage helicopter he modeled. Good choice. She has the best helicopter scripts in SL and she actually gets stuff done and released. Tig has been releasing new aircraft and boats. Guess who are selling aircraft and vehicles?

This is one of the reasons Builders like to make smaller planes. they don’t take as much time to build right. you want big planes Fantastic! but you have to give people time to make them.

Interesting time line that you presented us with Mal.

I see one common denominator with all of the above conflicts in the Second Life Aviation Community.

Many of the people fueling the anti-dani hysteria were also the same agitators who were involved in the above listed conflicts over the past decade in Second Life.

The Lindens involved with opening up the waters of the Jeogeot Gulf to combat were wise not to give administrative permissions to this group of people over the public water areas like the Blake Sea.

I am certain that the Lindens liked the idea of an open combat area, but knew enough about some of the previous combat groups history and actions, to decide against giving administrative powers to them.

When Wilder was banned at Aeronautica and Olds (by the same people) WE did not call it a monopoly. I don’t remember ever using the word, and I don’t remember Niki using it (too many syllables ). Any region has the right to protect the business that supports it, and in sales numbers we had WERE a threat. Although, we never banned THI or even Milestone at Wilder, because we recognized the social and traffic backlash it would have. We banned individual assclowns for cause.

The issue was that the war against Wilder was exported OUT of those places and into the community, intentionally and with the expressed purpose (we have old chat logs) for bringing down Wilder. THIS method did not work, it divided the community. When our RL’s changed enough that we could not spend the time in SL to keep the business going, they shifted their focus to kill Shana and others.

This same attitude of not just making good stuff and competing, but actually attempting to sabotage someone else’s business (which equals time and effort away from making better stuff yourself) is the same thing these same people are doing to Dani. Hell, I even heard more than one person grandiosely proclaim that RL companies like Microsoft do it, so it’s fine to do it in SL. scorched Earth policy isn’t working, it doesn’t work in SL, and it poisons your own well.

This almost pathological need to control the standards in combat and SL Aviation produces rationalizations that justify, in their minds, the abuse of innocent people with an API gadget that forces them out of the planes they paid for without warning. And make NO mistake, I could have scripted it myself so that it provided an IM warning to people in offensive planes to leave the area OR have it returned. They CHOSE this method of doing it. If Voom had made that thing just for use on the sims his own “tribe” ran, that’s fine and their choice.

I personally wouldn’t trust an API run by them not to collect and collate OTHER information in sims they placed it for the ripped mesh cause, but that’s because I’m familiar with the characters behind it. I remember there was no ethical line drawn when the API (probably the same one) destroyed customers’ property without notice of consent, and they see nothing wrong with this. I know what information on people they wanted to collect originally with the API by packet sniffing from an off-world internet site, again without privacy disclosure. I have no idea if they eventually did it that way, but no way I would trust it. Long standing patterns of behavior mean something.

The CRV was pushed out to everyone else who would accept it, even to SLHA. I would have walked away from the place in a moment if it had been deployed, which I told no one but my closest friends, but I expressed my opinion to those whose pay grade was above mine, and left them to make the decision. I felt it would be the right one.

THIS is the problem. Not that they want to determine who and what comes and goes in their airports, and what information is collected on those people, but that these schemes of pushing their will on the rest of SL Aviation never end. They don’t work, they NEVER worked, and they never will work. They only provide fuel for opposition, draw schisms with sides people have to choose, and drive principled people or victims of it away.

      • The thing is, in previous attempts to drive off competition, they were going after others who were making mostly combat and vintage aircraft. These were the same types of planes they were making. The ones buying said planes had at least some stake in what was going on.

In contrast, Dani makes modern general aviation aircraft, mostly passenger aircraft. His customers look at the ones complaining, see they don’t offer anything of interest to them and write them off and go on buying the planes they wish to fly. The few others who also make such aircraft seem content to simply make their aircraft and offer them. Surprise surprise, they sell theirs too.

Why should we listen to them? They don’t represent an area of aviation a lot of us have an interest in and yet they are trying to tell us not to buy the only decent aircraft that are made for they type of flying we want to do. I don’t think it’s dawned on many of them that this is an issue.

SL Aviation is the last subject on that time line list. It has nothing to do with Monopoly and was formed to avoid said monopoly. Hence the reason why we started off with 4 owners and are now 5 owners.

The hysteria does not come from the anti Dani supporters, but from a few crazy fanatic people that have put themselves on either Team and who’s aim is to disturb and disrupt.

“The Lindens involved with opening up the waters of the Jeogeot Gulf to combat were wise not to give administrative permissions to this group of people over the public water areas like the Blake Sea.”

This is not about power and wanting to rule the seven seas!
I was one of the very few involved in the first discussions with Linden Lab about creating a Combat Area away from the Blake Sea and suggested it’s current location.
I declined the offer to be a part of the group administering this area and those that were chosen are those the most active and representative in the combat scene.
They actually worked hard to get the combat regions and rightfully deserve to be where they are!

They were also aware of difficulties cause by combat members in the Blake Contested areas, as myriad complaints were lodged by the sailing community. It’s not unreasonable to think all this was at least considered.

Of course you could argue that underlining agendas were shifted in favor of a separate combat area away from the Blake Sea. As they say at the end of the day, it all turned out well. The Blake Sea is a peaceful and open area for Sailing, Aviation and other recreational activities connected to the mainland.

When did the discussion turn to Dani shit? Well, let’s see “WHICH INEVITABLY CAUSES…”…..the continuity is premise. CFR, produced for banning planes, which Dani made and exported to the Blake by the combat people in the Gulf as an extension of their standards.

You painted a flowered poster of the Blake Sea and the Gulf combat areas all nicely separate and happily living ever after, and yet the current shitstorm we’ve all been in was exported from the Gulf, and Dani was the object.

You, yourself, in what I viewed as a vulgar display of group owner and plane maker bias, supported the admins in your group fanning the shitstorm every time a Dani plane was mentioned, by ANYONE. Now you want to imply “hysteria” for mentioning the situation as a counterpoint to the happy-face vision of the Blake YOU put forward? Which, by the way, only uses the word “Dani” because that’s what you help make it about in the first place. If the war and CFR was about Dru, that’s the word I would have used.

If being a supporter of PEACEFUL free access in the Blake makes me a Dani supporter, then once again that is anti-Dani hysteria polarizing people. I defy you to find ONE SINGLE time I made any comment or reference to the quality of Dani planes, or Dani, or anything to do with his company.

You support a war against ANY creator in the Blake, and remain quiet as a church mouse about CFR’s being pushed and deployed against them in the Blake from people you know WELL in the Gulf, and we can use another name. Until then, this is the terrain YOU helped landscape, on which we find ourselves deployed. It wasn’t MY group flushing THAT toilet,

Wilder skies was more of an issue caused between the Vice fanbase and Pirate Air, Pirate Air was between Outlaw and Marktwain, AT vs Olds was between Joe and Aeon and Jewel’s drama was between Jewels and the voices she hears in her head.
So there is no real common denominator between any of them other than they were at one stage all labelled as Monopolies. Which was the point I was trying to make.

” Pirate Air, Pirate Air was between Outlaw and Marktwain”

This conflict also involved the same group that was harassing Wilder Air.

Outlaw made the mistake of bragging in one of the large group chats about the new rental and airport that his group built at Honah Lee Surf.

Soon after Pirate Air started the twice weekly grid flights that were a huge success and attended by many people.

Then the harassment started and Outlaw who had many health issues fell for the trolling and would lash out by returning airplanes that were bombing the airport and arguing with the people flying them.

The trolls would then go to Marktwain with reports of all of the horrible things that Outlaw did to them.

Who was this group of people trolling Pirate Air? They are the same people who are currently managing Honah lee Surf along with the owners of Second Life Wright Brother’s Field and the management of Old AFB.

What a small world it is.

Everything you’ve just said is so far from what actually happened I read it twice to make sure you weren’t confusing it with something else.
Outlaw wasn’t being trolled he WAS the troll.
He completely invented the mythical great enemy that was out to destroy him and used Wilder Skies as his Martyr to justify his weaponisation of Pirate Air.
Once Wilder Skies found out what he was doing she pulled support and that is when he exploded and started abusing his power.

One thing you should note is Marktwain White doesn’t care if people return Airplanes or abuse pilots, specially back then, his Staff do it almost every day on his behalf. Mostly because that’s not Marktwain Whites land. It’s Nber’s and what prompted her to remove Pirate Air was complaints from Outlaws nabours.
You can ask her yourself if you’d like I’m sure she remembers.

I was the Liaison between Niki and PA, and it wasn’t something I wanted or enjoyed much (except for a few friends I met there), but I did all the vendors. Except for some meetings and IMs with Outlaw, she didn’t know what was going on with them most of the time.

The main trolling at PA I saw was done by members of Flying Tigers, who were also in the Aeronautica camp when G let them talk him into doing “classes” of fighter planes, effectively banning some without actually banning. I believe that it to what Blackhawk refers.

With the exception of those too large to operate on the ramps, we return planes at SLHA based on the behavior of the operator, not who makes the things. If you want to call requiring people to follow the rules in a crowded sim, and be respectful when admin asks them (always initially with “please) to follow the rules “abuse”, then I would question your interpretation of the word.

Those policies are ones Mark agrees with, and we have all discussed. If someone doesn’t understand the difference between that and banning planes by maker, I’d suggest reviewing the entire subject from the bottom up.

After what’s just happened and the level of stalking and the fact I almost lost a long friend over this crap… I’m taking the gloves off.

This is what we’re dealing with, in regards to Dani’s crew. http://therobotmonster.tumblr.com/post/137379639464/zealots-and-fiction

Tig educated me on several levels on an error I made. It revealed a lot. In combination with what I’ve posted in this post… I’ve said my peace. If anyone wants to debate with me on this here or SL, keep it civil, and if it spills into SL with hostilities I will not hesitate to AR. No second chances.

I was with Pirate Air when they had nothing except a hangar and a picnic table in the old airport that MarkTwain owned in the southern Honah Lee sims.

I saw the “mythical great enemy ” troll Honah Lee Surf and Pirate Air numerous times.

In any case you said, she said, but in the end there is a lesson that I learned from that conflict.

That is the vulnerability an individual has leasing property from another person other than Linden Lab.

    Never again.

If I am going to provide funds to assist another group, they will have to own the property that they are building on.

The sad reality of this entire situation is that there is just no escape from it for aviation enthusiasts. Every active perpetrator of this fiasco is so sure that their cause is the just one that they have no concerns for collateral damage. Content bans (automated or verbal), retaliatory bans, airport boycotts, group infighting, griefing and publicized hate do NOTHING to solve the problem and EVERYTHING to victimize innocent players with little or no harm done to the alleged violators.

I have absolute ZERO sympathy for the perpetrators on either side of this argument. You all want to duke it out fine. Call the cops. Find lawyers. File DMCAs and lawsuits. But please stop screwing around with innocent players. They’ve done nothing to you.

SLA nearly 2900 members, my own group over 3000 members and I have created and help grow several very successful groups in SL over the many years I have been around.
This does not happen by coincidence!
Instead of constantly looking for the negative things, try looking at the positive sides and you to will be more successful!

Grown more successful groups but yet the conflict still go on? It is like asking the public to be positive about the war against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

  10. I’m done here. Flying is fun, sailing and boating is fun. Arguing, calling others out, acting like a jerk, needing to be right? Not much fun. So I quit. Do all of those as you wish. I don’t care. I won’t be reading or responding. Start talking about actual aviation and I might engage you
